Refreshment for August. Meeting Anita Sherman;

Meeting Minutes   July 28, 2006 Minutes for CVAA
Meeting was called to order at 1:35.
President Beth Bosmans reported that we had received Four thank you cards. Mechele (as acting Secretary ) read them to the members. One from the Philharmonic Group, thanking us for our grids and artists who donated paintings for their 4th of July event. One each from two of our Scholarship recipients Lisa Shoemaker, and Sebastian Diaz. Plus one from Hiroki Hervin, for his winning of our first award for Welding work.
WNCC show for July was cancelled because the college was closed for that month. In September we will be holding a show for small paintings, there, on grids in the entry area. More to be said about that show at our August meeting.
The CVI Show, with Nevada Artist Association, wasn't as good as last year, or expected, as it was our second show. Linda Townsend said we need to rethink next year’s show. Maybe a three day weekend. Doreen Sedalick sent a report to our Treasurer. After all the expenses were deducted there was a $29.84 profit to split. Only a few sales of cards and a print. Not too good.
Our Mini Show was an excellent show, some very good art was brought in. Thank you all who made this a success.
Cathy Quiel's workshop is September 8th, 9th , and 10th. Those who are going to the workshop must have their deposit in to our treasurer by the middle of August. It is $50 ( non refundable) the balance due during the workshop. The fee is $180 total, for three days, from 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. each day. She is a wonderful Watercolorist and great teacher. She has conducted classes in watercolor for 20 years. She also takes students to a different place in Europe, Alaska, and Mexico, during the summer months. She makes a workshop fun and a great learning experience. This workshop will be on back-lighting and textures, plus a day at Genoa to use what we learn.
September Pot-Luck luncheon will be held at Nancy Kilburg's home. There will be a white elephant exchange, since this will take the place of our Christmas Party. Also bring a can of food for the food closet. We will be honoring Bob Thompkins, for his years of work for the good of CVAA. His son Mark will be bringing him to our luncheon.
November Scholarship Show is coming up. We need everyone to do what they can to get raffle prizes for the show. The money we make on these, selling tickets, plus the show, gives us the money for our scholarships. The more we make the more Scholarships we can give. Please do what you can.
There was a discussion on giving more ribbons at this show, as it is the only show we give them. The show we have given 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons, plus money, and 6 Honorable Mentions. There are some members who would like more ribbons for categories. In order to be able to do this we would have to ask for higher entry fees, so we don’t take away more money for the Scholarships. Also it was suggested that any ribbons given would be limited to one ribbon per person. We will discuss this more at the August meeting.
Reiko gave us a good time teaching Origami. We each made three items and had lots of laughs.
Thank you Reiko!!
August meeting will present Larry Jacox, a watercolor painter, and teacher from Reno. His work can be seen at The Artist's Co-op in Reno. See the Record Courier for his Resume.
Mechele Johnson for Ron Clarke, Secretary

Larry Jacox

Larry Jacox grew up in southern Washington state but has lived in the Reno and northern Nevada area since 1960. He was an art major at Univ. of Washington in Seattle and finished his degree in Art Education at UNR.
He worked for a number of years for Washoe County Schools then switched to the Nevada bureau of Mines where he worked as a graphic artist, draftsman and cartographer until retiring 12 years ago.
Larry’s work most recently has been largely watercolors due to an allergy to oil painting materials. His subject matter is mostly the western area landscape, but occasionally an aviation picture of people scene sneaks in.
He’s involved with the local art clubs and has been teaching a watercolor class at the Elder College in Reno for several years. His work may be seen at the Artist’s Co-op at 627 Mill Street in Reno.

The Cathy Quiel Workshop is set for September 8-9-10. The cost for this three day event is $180. We need sign-ups and a non-refundable
Deposit of $50 in the mail by August 15th
Send to CVAA, POBox 2048, Gardnerville, NV 89410.

Message from Our President
Our last meeting didn't have a large number of members, but the ones who attended were a good group. We had lots of interaction and great discussion. Really great input. Thanks to everyone who was there.
Be thinking of raffle prizes for our Scholarship Show. Please, if you get a prize from a merchant, let Carolyn Denning know so others don't go to the same merchant. We will have more information at our next meeting, so try to be there. Our Scholarship Show Committee is asking for "artsie" cards for Thank You for those people who donate prizes for our raffle. So if you have some, bring them to our meeting to give to the committee.
Time surely is going by fast. Be creative and get busy.
Beth
