Message from the President Thank you to Gordon & BJ for their hospitality. Im sure everyone who spent the day with the Pefleys had a wonderful time. It was a great day to be at the lake. The mini show at WNCC looks great. Thanks to the hanging committee. Youre doing a great job. I hope everyone is looking forward to our luncheon at Nancys this month. I know I am. I have a great White Elephant. Our Scholarship Show committee, Carolyn & Sue, are doing a great job. I hope everyone is working hard and creating some new and wonderful pieces of art for that show. Be creative! BethHave you checked out our website for the "Artist of the Month"? Gordon has done a great job of putting this together and we all need to thank him for the use of his precious time. Starting around the 15th of this month Nancy Clarke (painting is my passion and landscapes are my inspiration), will be the featured artist. Shes truly a dedicated artist and well all enjoy reading about her and seeing the samples of her work Go to www.cvart.org click on CVAA Artist of the Month
Scholarship Show Raffle Carolyn Denning and Sue Smith are working hard at pulling the Scholarship Show together. But they need your help in getting all those raffle prizes lined up. At the last meeting there was a sign-up sheet for who would go to which businesses to get donations. If youve done your job, you should have a couple by now. Please call Carolyn or Sue and let them know who youve gotten on the list for this year -- or get out there and get a donation! The raffle is a huge moneymaker for our scholarship fund. Who would wouldnt want to win a dinner, a haircut, or even a painting? But we all need to help in finding those prizes.
The Antelope Valley Artists group will be sponsoring a juried art and fine craft show on November 12th in Walker, California. Artists are invited to submit an application in one of many categories. Applications are due by October 25th. For more information call (530)495-2901 or write Antelope Valley Artists, POBox 75, Coleville, CA 96107 and include a SASE.
QUOTE OF THE MONTH You dont have to blow out someone elses candle to make yours glow brighter. Unknown Meeting Minutes August 25, 2006 Meeting was called to order at 1:33 in the Liz Johnson Room of the Douglas County Library. Minutes of the last meeting are in the Newsletter. Helen Martin gave the Treasurers Report; we're still solvent. The WNCC Miniature Show, on the grids in the lobby, will be checked in and hung from 10-11:30 AM on September 1st Each member can enter 2 - 3 pieces, depending on space. There are 11 artists signed up for the Kathy Quiel, from Santa Barbara, workshop. It is September 8th and 9th at WNCC and the 10thwill be plein aire in Genoa. Bring a pill box/container for her paint samples. Beth asked for three volunteers for the nominating committee. Next month will be the members only potluck, at Nancy Kilburg's; see the sheet in the August newsletter. Helen Fanning is off the hook for September refreshments. Carolyn Denning will have refreshments for October. Carolyn Denning and Sue Smith talked about raffle prizes for the scholarship show. We need members to get those prizes. A list was passed with prior donors and members who got them for members to sign up. We need to get them lined up while the donors still have funds in their budget. There are two sheets: one for the donors records and one for CVAA. Need to have this done early, so we can get the list, with the donors in the papers before the show. The Pefleys have invited us up to their place for painting, sketching or just visiting the Lake. Bring your sack lunch. B.J. will have drinks and some cookies and cake. We need to get them a list of cars and drivers for passage through the gate. Helen Martin is taking over the newsletter for CVAA. Many appreciative thanks to Helen Fanning for past newsletters and for continuing as historian. Keep your eyes open for more on the Carson Valley and Markleeville Artists Studio Tours. Beth was asked to use our CVAA member list for mailing; but declined in order to keep our privacy. Reiko Hervin told us about the Carson Valley Art Gallery Association's
displays in the CVIC Hall on Saturday and Sunday September 9th & 10th
from 10AM to 5PM. This is in conjunction with the Town of Minden's Craft Fair.
The galleries in Carson Valley have formed an Association to publicize and
promote the galleries. They generally have demos in each of the galleries on the
2nd Saturday of each month. This is a combined event with the Craft Fair. Jonni Hill announced a reception for the NAA's Carson River show at the Record Courier on 9/14 from 5-7PM. The NAA artists each painted the same scene in their own media and style. The show will be in the Record Courier Offices through 9/30. The business meeting was adjourned at 1:51 for refreshments from Anita Sherman. Larry Jacox was our demonstrator. Larry works from digital camera, which allows sizing and composition and the freezing of action and lighting. He then grids the scene and works fast, using light gridlines for water color. Get the big stuff in first for composition and then fill in the detail and do the final retouching. Adjourned at 3:00.
